Thorne-Thomsen is the author of a dozen books, seven of them for children. Her most recent book, The Huntington for Kids tells the story of Henry Huntington, a generous man who loved books, art, and plants. It goes behind the scenes of the Huntington's gardens and galleries helping kids imagine what it is like to be a book collector, gardener, or artist.

Frank Lloyd Wright for Kids was awarded a Parent's Choice Recommended designation. The Way Pasadena Was won an education award from the American Association of Museums (AAM) in June, 2004. Greene & Greene for Kids was one of the Best of 2004 in Januarymagazine.com. Kathleen has made presentations on childrens' books at the National Museum Publishing Seminar. She has received grants from the Graham Foundation, the Pasadena Community Foundation (with the Gamble House), and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Department (with the Pasadena Museum of History).
